Human Interaction is Here to Stay Despite Pandemic
SVP, Commercial & Consumer Markets | Health Plans, Advanced Technology Solutions
In a recent virtual summit, “Adapting in the Age of COVID-19: The Health Care Delivery System Responds,” Blue Shield of California President and CEO Paul Markovich spoke about the role health plans play in sustaining the viability of independent physician practices and ways health plans can support care transformation during and after COVID-19.
The summit, co-sponsored by Blue Shield, focused on how the U.S. healthcare delivery system is responding and evolving in the face of COVID-19 through the lens of several national healthcare leaders.
“We need to bring health care into the digital age without losing emphasis on the importance of human interaction: physically, socially, and intellectually,” Paul said. “We also need to think more broadly about how things like housing, transportation and other social factors affect health.”
He emphasized Blue Shield’s commitment to health care that is worthy of our family and friends and sustainably affordable. “Looking to the future, health care will need to be holistic, personalized, high tech, and high touch,” he added.
“What’s here to stay is the need for human interaction in our health and well-being,” Paul said. “The pandemic gives us the opportunity to reimagine health care to improve the entire system.”
